A new page where I will publish external software that I just modified to fit my needs. The first customization that I want to make public regards the lxpanel and a panel applet that I needed to improve.
The applet is the “Keyboard Layout Switcher” that I renamed to “Keyboard Layouts Handler”. The changes that I applied did not gain any interest from the LXDE developers so if you want to try it out you’ll probably have to download it from here. I hope it will be useful for you as it is for me.
It is really very nice piece of work, but a function is missing in it as in xfce Layout switcher. In Gnome and KDE there is a possibility of elevating layout to 3rd level key selection by choosing extra key (ex. L-Alt or both Alt), and many are possible to choose from. Would it be possible to add this choice to your Layout Handler? It is just matter of comfort in typing in “other” languages 😉
Best regards
Hi, I’m not sure I understood, you would like to be able to select more than one option for switching?
What I meant is an option in other languages – to elevate a keyboard to 3 level of symbols – for example in Polish are special letters not available in English, to chose them you need to press alt – and one can add another key on the other side of the keyboard (in KDE and Gnome by definition in keyboard layout “options”) – so to be precise – pressing the key one uses a letter “a”, pressing a with “shift” one gets “A”, pressing “a” with alt one can get “ą” and pressing a with “shift”+”alt” one gets “Ą”…
That what I am missing in LXDE and XFCE as well 🙁
Thank you for your quick answer
The “Keyboar Layout Handler” that I implemented is merely a frontend to the command line tool “setxkbmap”, whose manual can be printed with “man setxkbmap” and all the available options can be printed with “man xkeyboard-config”.
I’m afraid that it is not possible to obtain the result you want with this, but if instead there are some options that I didn’t consider let me know.
Cheers.
